Dental
Extractions
There are many reasons that
teeth need to be removed. These include decay, gum disease, and
trauma.
In most situations, an office
visit will be scheduled for you to meet the doctor and be evaluated with an
x-ray and intra-oral examination. Anesthesia options will be explained
and a recommendation offered.
Most patients prefer to
remain home from work on the day of surgery. Returning to work the
same day as surgery is performed is not option if you choose to have
intravenous (IV) anesthesia, as your sedation will take most of the day to
wear off.
You will receive printed
post-operative instructions to reference during your healing. If you
have IV anesthesia, these will be reviewed with your driver while you are in
our recovery area. These post-operative instructions are also found on
our web site on the
"Patient Information"
tab. Extra gauze and your doctor's prescriptions will be provided.

Wisdom Teeth
An estimated 90%
of the population does not have enough room for wisdom teeth to
grow into a place that is needed for good oral health. Wisdom
teeth are removed to eliminate the potential for infection and
damage to adjacent teeth. When there is inadequate space for a
tooth to come into its normal position in the mouth and it
remains partially or completely covered with gum tissue or bone,
it is said to be impacted. Impacted teeth can cause infection
and also be the source of dental cysts and tumors.

Dental
Implants
Dental implants are replacements for
lost teeth and can be used to support crowns, bridges or dentures. If you
are missing one, several or all of your natural teeth, dental implants can
help reduce bone loss, which occurs after teeth are extracted. Our doctors
are highly trained to perform implant surgery. If you are interested in
finding more about replacing your missing teeth, please e-mail our friendly
staff.

Dental
implants are a team effort
Dental implants combine the best of
modern science and technology, including a team approach
spanning several disciplines. A successful implant
requires that all parties involved the patient; the restorative
dentist who makes the crown for the implant; and the Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeon who surgically places the implant,
follow a careful plan of treatment. All members of the
implant team stay in close contact with each other to make sure
everyone clearly understands what needs to be done to meet the
patient's expectations.

Reconstruction
Surgery
Oral and maxillofacial
surgeons correct defects of the hard and soft tissues of the
jaws and facial bones that are the results of injuries or growth
abnormalities. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are trained in
the treatment of injuries to the teeth, jaws and facial bones.
They also treat the long-term defects that results from these
types of injuries. Long-term reconstructive procedures include:
